Radon Testing Naples, Marco, Bonita Springs, Ft Myers & Cape Coral
Florida Radon Certification Program provides the rules for
radon testing in Florida.
We have been certified since
1999 and performed over 23,000 radon tests in our area. Homeowners and homebuyers should know that almost all first floor
condominiums in Naples and Fort Myers tested have elevated radon levels. Elevated radon levels are a health concern but radon
mitigation should be considered as just another home repair. Methods used this area for reducing radon levels bring fresh
air into the home which also help reduce other indoor air quality issues such as off gassing of VOC gases from glues, caulks,
paint, etc in furniture, and building supplies used in construction.
Both long term and short term radon test devices should be placed in a room that is used regularly (like a living
room, playroom, den, or bedroom) but not in the kitchen or bathroom. If a buyer is planning on using a part of the home that
the seller does not currently use, they may consider having that area tested, such as unfinished lower levels.
Person placing and/or picking up your Naples or Bonita Springs radon test must be Florida
DOH certified to do so. Your radon report MUST come from a Florida DOH certified radon measurement business. Most inspector
work under some other company's measurement business certification.
Naples or Ft Myers Radon Tests must be performed by FL DOH certified
individual and report must come from a FL DOH certified radon measurement business. To see a sample radon report click

Elevated Radon levels are generally mitigated differently in
Naples, Ft Myers or Cape Coral area than they are "up north". http://radonfix.com/ is a good source for information on South Florida radon mitigations.

For an in-depth look at radon, the United Staes Environmental
Protection Agency (E.P.A.) has extensive information available for the general public:
Although radon gas is a serious health threat to all of
us, too often, it is ignored and or misunderstood. It is a serious health concern but best considered as just another home
repair when mitigated properly
"The state of Florida has a mandatory radon testing program for public
facilities in the majority of counties in Florida. These public facilities include public and private schools, state
licensed day care centers, and 24 hour care facilities such as nursing homes and hospitals." FL DOH
Interestingly however,
Collier and Lee Counties do not fall under this mandatory testing. This is a concern as the Florida Department of Health
shows that 1 in 4 residential dwellings in Lee and Collier counties have radon levels above the established limit considered
safe.
Your Marco Island, Cape Coral, Naples
or Bonita Springs radon test MUST be performed by a FL DOH certified Radon Measurement Business and the person
placing and picking up the test MUST also be FL DOH certified to do so.
Bonita Springs consumers should
be cautious about who issues their radon report, it must come from a Florida DOH certified Radon Measurement Business.
For a "legal" test, Cape Coral consumers should understand
that the person placing their radon test is FL DOH certied for radon testing. The individual must be certified not the home
inspection company or the "boss".
